Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka

The Tamil Tigers are known as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam which is shortly named as the LTTE or Tamil Tigers. It is one of the most operative, organized and pitiless terrorist gang in the world. This LTTE terrorist group was founded around 1976 in May by the leader of LTTE Velupillai Prabhakaran.

History of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam

The Tamils migrated to Sri Lanka from the India increased their population about 10% – 15%.During the period of 1972 the Sinhalese had the control of Sri Lanka while Buddhism became the official religion. The Tamils took this action as an insult to them and founded the Tigers terrorist group soon after. The LTTE is found on 5th of May 1976 till 19th of May 2009.This Terrorism was active in many regions of the world during its ruling periods in countries such as India, Switzerland, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, France and Australia. Uma Maheswaran became the first leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam while the Velupillai Prabhakaran appointed as the military commander.

The LTTE includes about 5000 to 10,000 guerillas that are fighting to capture the island of Sri Lanka. The Military commander Velupillai Prabhakaran desired to remake a new LTTE group as a brutal and highly specialized force, so he always appoint a 5 member committee and maintains highly professional standard training. The LTTE held out its first attack on 23rd of July 1983, which resulted to death of thirteen service man of Sri Lanka leaded to Black July. Since then the tigers have plotted many violent attacks by which includes Suicide Bombers, Bombing public places, religious places, transportation hubs and other locations. This terrorist group includes various forces such as ground and se forces, grenade launchers, well trained rocket armed forces.

End of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam

The current President Mahinda Rajapaksha took a conclusive action against the LTTE with the support of the neighboring countries. The Government of Sri Lanka had control victory over the tigers on 18TH of May 2009.By the 19th of May 2009 the Sri Lankan armed forces resolved its operation against the LTTE by recapturing the Northern Province, entire Mullaitivu district and including the Kilinochchi and the Elephant Pass.

Summary

Finally the whole operation declared its success on 19th of May 2009 since the leader of LTTE Velupillai Prabhakaran was killed. Also the second leader of LTTE named Selvarasa Pathmanathan was arrested while he was in Malaysia and handed over to the Sri Lanka government during the August 2009.
